Staged Construction Inspection

Building a new house is the big investment and can be complex and daunting for those who aren’t familiar with the building process. Inspection of the works is an important means to identify any non-compliant or defective work and allow all parties to address the issues before they develop over the build and become more difficult to fix.

This is particularly important in these times of high demand in the building industry which is putting pressure on build quality and site supervision leading to high number of issues om site. A report by the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute published in September of 2024 found that up to 70% of homes are reported to have one more problem. The Wier Shergold Building Confidence report of 2018 recommends mandatory independent inspections be carried out but no such inspections are required in Western Australia which leaves consumers to find any issues that exist on their own and usually after handover.

Hills Building Consultant’s stage inspection program is designed to thoroughly inspect each stage of the construction work at recognised stages of slab and footings, wall height, roof frame and completion.  The process starts with the Council approved drawings and the inspections compare the building work with the approved drawings, National Construction Code and the referenced standards. The inspections focus on compliance items rather than appearance issues and each inspection can be expected to be priced at around $500.
